Why is it in many restaurants that this charge is such a high fee. Just to let all you know that we at Zest Restaurant Don’t charge for Corckage and yes it’s free. You are welcome to bring your favorite bottle of wine and enjoy it with our Delicious menu and your special guests or freinds. NOT OFTEN YOU GET SOMETHING FOR FREE.

Knysna Coffee Group - What is it all about ??

The reason that this site exists, and also why the group of 58 business people get together every two weeks to chat about business related matters, to hear guest speakers who enhance their own and business lives…. that is what the Coffee Group concept is about.

Birthed in the mind of Scott Cundill as a way to get micro business to get together and share and learn that as a small business, we are not alone, that problems shared are normally problems solved and also that if we learn to share our resources we become stronger as a team. Scott is the “father” of Majestic software which is a very advanced customer relations program, but one that offers full communication capability both to and from all of your customers.

Attandance of our Coffee Group meeting is FREE except for the costs of whatever you order during the meeting. Meetings are held at various venues around Knysna to allow these business exposure to the group, sothat they can become familiar with the venues and also go aweay and tell their friends and business collegues about the venues….which hopefully bring them to the venues too….allowing faster growth of the businesses who leave an impression …

Ok, you spent day 1 in the forest (see www.knysnatourism.co.za/2008/12/hospitality/what-to-do-in-knysna-part-2/). But on your way into the forest yesterday you may have noticed

Tottie’s Eatery, in the little hamlet of Rheenendal, behind the post office slash petrol station slash general dealers shop. Go there on a Sunday afternoon, or if you’re lucky on a Friday or Saturday night. They have a very casually run restaurant, but with some great home-made foods. And the nice thing is that you can sit outside next to the fire baskets and there’s space for the kids to ‘run around’. Rumours have it they plan to develop the adjacent sawmill and wood factory into a community center, museum and provide shelter for abused women and children from the nearby communities some time in the future. By possibly building a holiday retreat or hotel there, to bring in badly needed funding to improve the living standards of those communities in general and those women and children in particular. So this is worth promoting! And nobody knows about it…

The other thing you could have done on your back from the Gold Mines was to actually explore the area on top of a horse. There are a few options, but one we can really recommend is the Forest Horse Rides (you can reach them on 04… ): they teach kids in the afternoon, but during the morning and day they’ll take you on a scenic ride through farm lands, pine forests and indigenous fynbos on well schooled trail horses with experienced guides. Maximum 4 people at a time, how’s that?

Pledge Nature Reserve

I don’t know how many of you are aware of the controversy surrounding the Oyster Walk development that has effectively cut public access off to the Nature Reserve from Pledge Square but if there ever was an issue that demands answers to questions, this is it. An erf was expropriated during the mid 1990’s for the purposes of providing public access to Pledge. This was subsequently bundled up with private erven and virtually given away so as to facilitate a high density residential development that is improperly zoned business. Planning permission was granted subject to certain conditions such which have not been fulfilled yet despite this the developer was been given the go ahead to commence by the Municipal Clerk and one must ask why?

One of these conditions was that an existing service access road from Fitchat St into the Reserve would be provided for as part of the dvelopment. The developer howevr, has ignored this and has excavated right up to the boundary of the property making the service road impassable. Who is accountable for this development? How did it ever get this far? Why was there no EIA? What right has the Municipal Clerk to overrule conditions set by Council in the Public’s interest?

Well that is as common a fishing statement as there ever was…. well here is some proof right out of the pudding that Groenvlei (The fresh water lake just outside Sedgefiled ) can product some amazing Black Bass. We had to take this one out as the hook damaged the fish.

This was a BASS we caught on rubber worm in the late afternoon.
